Turkey's Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, is in Qatar and today (02 Teves 5782) held a joint press conference with Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The pair commented of a range of foreign policy issues and showed themselves to be largely aligned. They commented on Afghanistan and the need for humanitarian assistance. Cavusoglu called on the international community to differentiate between the political and the humanitarian side of dealing with Afghanistan while urging the international community to engage in dialogue. Regarding the conflict in Libya both countries support the United Nations recognised government. Regarding Syria both countries expressed the need for a political solution before allowing Syria to rejoin the Arab league. Regarding Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Sheikh Mohammed said "I don’t think we are in a position to offer him a free pass to come to the Arab League". Cavusoglu agreed.
